Zzit is an application that revitalizes a 19th century communication technology in the form of a text to Morse code and Morse code to text mobile application. In face of the rapidly evolving media environment to exploit some of the features of an anachronistically looking, older communication tool – encypted, secret language – can make an important contribution to today’s post-digital, post-Snowden, post-GDPR era. Zzit’s turn to a „dead media’" should also be considered in a generational perspective: digital natives might make do without looking at the phone (like in the bed after dark), or might feel embarrassed by other’s noticing that they use cell phones (like during compulsory theater play with school or in „new normal” situations such as a terror attack).
