Hímes

Hímes is a special USB flash drive which was designed by the researchers of KiBu to 100% Design Tokyo design festival and market. It is small, girly, tricky and wicked.

Participating researchers

Gina Haraszti, Szonja Kádár, Melinda Sipos

For who?

According to polls, mainly girls are shopping in Japan. Even man-products are bought by women as gifts. So during the design procedure we kept our eye on the feminim aspects. The small flash drive can be functioning as an earring, so it works for those girls who are not that interested in IT. But it can be used as a keyring or a mobile strap as well.

The design

The main advance of the flash drive is its size. Since there is a special super slim flash drive inside, the whole size is not bigger than 3,5 cm. Of course it fits to any normal USB ports.

The egg-like shape is based on Hungarian traditions, just like he patters. We used Hungarian folk patterns to turn them to something more modern and minimalist. Every egg is painted by hand!

The material is matte plastic, but we are planning to produce a limited edition made of ceramic or porcelain.

The festival

100% Design was established in London in 1995. 100% Design is an exhibition with a difference. It is dedicated to the latest and most innovative contemporary interior products, and is renowned for changing the face of the UK design industry.

100% Design Tokyo made its sensational debut in 2005. Receiving an overwhelming response from both the international and domestic design community as a new and highly respected design event, 100% Design Tokyo has already established itself as Japan’s premier contemporary interiors event.
