Flights are personal lanterns, extraordinary lightning objects, party-accessories based on communication and simple interaction between people and their surroundings.

Why do we prepare it?

We were motivated by a call for artworks in a contemporary art festival of Székesfehérvár, 2008. We imagined a simple, light, entertaining object based on minimal interaction which decorates and completes outside events.

How does it work?

Our lantern is a helium filled balloon with RGB LEDs inside. The power supply and electronic components are packed in a little pocket which can be easily attached on clothes. By default every balloon has its own color which changes when two people approach each other at a distance of one meter. At this point, the colours of the two balloons start to mix creating an additive hue (blue and yellow make green). As the distance between the people increases again, the balloons fade back slowly to their default color.

Current state

We are testing the connections between the balloons and other possibilities of interactions (light sensors, alcohol sensors, irda...) between the four flight prototypes created.
