Event details

Neuro gym is a sensory ride in the terrain of the technological formation of the virtual. Virtuality has been with us since the Ice Age Art, when we first broke the natural law of immediacy and started to symbolically think, speak and represent objects that were not present.

Today we seem to be on the threshold of digital virtual reality systems to reach mass market appeal. Also denoted as face computers, VR is a new form of technology that radically shortens the distance between the screen and the eye. Not only broadcasts an ideological frame on reality like TV, but via strapping a piece of hardware onto the head, it fully encloses the gaze on the actual surroundings. It simultaneously blocks away and gives way to emancipated visions of alternative worlds. Although experiments with virtual systems, simulators and the augmentation of reality have been with us since the ‘50s, the full capabilities of these immersive technologies have yet to be explored.
What if the architecture of a city is more accessible through a smart phone device than in its physical place? How do you make up your virtual self that’s more empowered than the physical? What to do with this “phygital” (physical + digital) condition of blurred realities?

Computer generated imagery and animation is put to work in order to investigate the whereabouts of fantasy worlds, machine-being, internet presence, synthetic ecosystems, simulations, latent ideologies, futurist scenarios and affections.
